6 Tips on Finding Your Lost House Keys

1 out of 9 Americans over 45 report memory issues. Even if you’re a spring chicken with pristine memory, there’s a chance you’ll find yourself freaking out about losing your house keys.

When that day comes, you want to be prepared. That way, you’ll know exactly what to do to get back in.

Here are 6 tips to find or replace your lost house keys so your day (or week!) isn’t ruined.

1. Calm Down

It’s easier said than done, but calming down when you’re panicking can do wonders. If your mind’s screaming, “where did I put my keys” over and over again, then take a few deep breaths.

Taking a minute or two to calm down and recollect your thoughts can save you time in the long run. So go zen!

2. Retrace Your Steps

Once you’ve calmed down and cleared your mind, think about what you were doing before you realized, “I’ve lost my keys!” It might help to pantomime what you were doing. You just might realize you set down your keys in the fridge when you went to grab your soda.

3. Enlist the Help of Others

If you live with other people, enlist their help. More brains are better than one, and who knows, maybe one of your roommates saw you absentmindedly throw your keys on the couch!

In addition, with more eyes searching the house, you’ll cover more ground in a faster amount of time. You’ll be back up and running without losing too much time.

4. Call the Locksmith

At some time, you’ll have to admit defeat. Otherwise, you’ll spend all day searching for your keys and you’ll get nothing done!

By calling a locksmith, you can get into your house and grab your spare (if you have one). You can then worry about finding your original set later.

5. Make a Few Spares

If you don’t already have a spare key, make some. Leave one inside the house, another outside (such as under the doormat), and give a few to friends/family.

That way, if you get locked out, you’ll always have a backup plan. Plus, if your original ever breaks, you have plenty of spares to rely on!

6. Use a Smart Key Finder

There are Bluetooth item finders you can use for your keys. Just peel back a sticker, stick it on your keys, and connect to your app.

The next time you lose your house keys, just fire up the app and you’ll be able to find them in no time!

Find Your Lost House Keys Pronto
