Five Popular Hatchback Cars

For many drivers, a hatchback offers the perfect combination of reliability, practicality and affordability. These cars have been on UK roads for many years and continue to hold a solid position within the automotive market.

This article will share some of the most popular hatchback cars and highlight some of their most appealing attributes.

What is a hatchback?

A hatchback car is a four-door vehicle with a tailgate that opens upwards, offering drivers access to the boot, and typically contains a large rear window. The majority of hatchbacks allow drivers to fold the rear seats forward, creating a much larger area in the boot for additional space. Hatchbacks often come with a removable partition ‘shelf’ which can be taken out of the car to create more space without having to fold the back seats forward.

Five of the most popular hatchback cars are:

Volkswagen Polo

Volkswagen is a manufacturer known for its reliability, with many different models on the market appealing to drivers. One of the most popular models is undoubtedly the Polo, the smaller sibling of the Golf. Offering the same durability and practicality of a Golf, the Polo proves to be a great choice for families or couples that don’t necessarily need a larger car but can still benefit from the high-quality fittings and drivability.

Peugeot 208

A popular choice with young or first-time drivers, the Peugeot 208 is a small, affordable hatchback that still ticks all the boxes. Due to its size, it may not be the ideal choice if you plan on carting lots of belongings or shopping back and forth, but it would be perfect for a running about car to get you from A to B.

Vauxhall Astra

If you are looking for a car where drivability is at the top of your list, a hatchback like a Vauxhall Astra could be a great option. The Astra has been remodelled to a higher standard of late, offering drivers an improved driving experience and a range of engines. This hatchback can be a more expensive option, so if you are interested in purchasing one you could consider looking for a used Vauxhall Astra at a lower price.

Ford Focus

Ford is recognised for its safe and reliable cars, and the Ford Focus is no exception. This hatchback comes equipped with high-quality tech and performance options and offers families a solid, well-produced vehicle that is easy to drive.

Toyota Corolla

It may not be the most spacious hatchback on the market, but what it lacks in size, the Toyota Corolla makes up for in efficiency and curb appeal. As it’s a hybrid model, the Corolla is also a lot cheaper to run than most other hatchbacks on UK roads.
