The electric car is not a recent invention; it has a long and illustrious history. “Electric vehicles are the future,” they frequently proclaim. They are eco-friendly and have the right amount of functionality, making them an excellent choice for people. By pursuing the best online courses for electrical engineering, anyone can become a game-changer.

Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Hyundai, Mahindra, Chevrolet, BMW, and Renault are among the companies producing ground-breaking electric vehicles today. But how well do we know the history of electric vehicles? If not, let us understand.

The Advent of Electric Vehicles: From Electric Carriage to Electric Cars

Many people deserve credit for the common invention of electric cars. Anyos Jedlik invented an electric motor in 1828 and used it to create the small electric car. Scottish inventor Robert Anderson also created a crude electric carriage between 1832 and 1839.

The first electric vehicle was a three-wheeler named VIKRAM SAFA, which was invented by Scooter’s India Pvt Ltd in 1996. A total of 400 vehicles were built and sold. BHEL created an eighteen-seater electric bus in 2000, which became popular as well. Then, approximately 200 electric vans were built and operated in Delhi. However, it did not fare well in the market.

Electric vehicles first appeared in the nineteenth century. Previously, they did not fare well in the market due to their high cost, low speed, and short-range.

As environmental concerns grew in the twenty-first century, gas-powered vehicles emit a lot of smoke and are extremely harmful to the atmosphere.

As environmental concerns grew in the twenty-first century, gas-powered vehicles emit a lot of smoke and are extremely harmful to the atmosphere.

As a result, interest in electric vehicles has grown. Electric cars were popular among city dwellers, where their short-range was not a disadvantage. Another reason it took off was that there was no need to change gears, making it a simple option.

Electric rickshaws dominated the entire market due to their widespread popularity. In India, approximately 500000 e-rickshaws were sold in 2016-17. It was a huge help to the people who had to commute every day. Currently, these rickshaws are primarily used in the Delhi NCR. The government is now focusing on heavily polluted cities in order to increase the use of electric vehicles.

The Future of Electric Cars in India

In 2021, companies are working hard to develop affordable electric vehicles. For example, E-Trio, an EV Chargers company, is working to make EVs affordable for all. They concentrate on automobiles as well as other products such as electric LCVs, electric bikes, and electric three-wheelers.

The Indian government intends to make arrangements and provide incentives to encourage more people to contribute to 25% of all new vehicle registrations by 2024. Electric vehicles currently account for only 0.29 per cent of total registrations in India. A two-pronged approach must be put in place for this to happen. Online course on electric vehicles can make you be a part of it.

To begin, India must be truly EV-ready by establishing the necessary infrastructure and technology to support electric vehicle manufacturing. Second, provisions must be put in place to allow old vehicles to be retrofitted into hybrid electric vehicles in order to reduce rising pollution levels.
