Inflatable stand-up paddle boarding FAQs

Q How long does an inflatable SUP take to inflate?

The duration an inflatable stand-up paddleboard takes to inflate depends on the type of pump you use. If you are using the normal hand pump, it will take 6 to 10 minutes depending on your pumping speed.

But if you are using an electric pump, it may take 6 minutes or less depending on the size of your inflatable stand-up paddleboard.

Q How do I care for my inflatable stand-up paddleboard?

*Always make sure your inflatable stand-up paddleboard is fully dry before packing it in the bag. This is to prevent mold, mildew, and other substances from forming.

*Always keep the board in a cool dry place. You do not expose it to direct sunlight and other elements that can weaken the material.

*Spray the paddleboard regularly to protect it from UV rays. You can purchase the spray at various boating stores.

Q Can I remove the fin?

You can remove the fin. However, it depends on your paddleboard. Some inflatable paddle boards have removable fins while others have attached fins.

Some ISUPs have 3 removable fins while others one big removable fin at the center and two attached fins on the sides.

Q What should I do if think my board leaks?

Inflatable stand-up paddleboards are very tough and strong. However, a leak can occur. If you think your board leaks, the easiest method to find out is to fully inflate it.

Then pour soapy water over and spread the suds using a cloth. If there is a leak, you will see tiny bubbles popping up.

Once you see a leak, the next step is to patch it up. Happily, inflatable stand-up paddleboards come with a repair kit that has waterproof glue and a small PVC patch.

Start by deflating the board and ensure it is dry and clean. You cannot patch the leak when the board is dirty and wet. Then apply a good layer of waterproof glue to the leaking area.

Wait for around twenty minutes and then apply another coat. Then wait for another twenty minutes before applying glue to the PVC patch. Then press it firmly on the inflatable board.

To ensure it sticks properly, you can place a heavy item such as a clamp or weight for some hours. Do not inflate the board before 24 hours are over.

Q If I hit some logs or debris, what will happen to my ISUP?

Most inflatable stand-up paddleboards are tough and strong. Hence, nothing will happen when you hit some debris or logs.

Even though it is important to stay away from such things, hitting a log or a dock will only leave a scuff on the board.

But take care of your paddleboard by not dragging your board on gravel or paddling on areas with sharp objects.

Q How do the width, length, and thickness affect the performance?

Q Can I take my dog on an inflatable stand-up paddleboard?

You can take your dog on the ISUP. The board is well designed to hold a lot of weight.

However, a large dog may cause more stability issues than a small one. Therefore, doing some training before jumping into the board is a good idea.

Q Which are the best paddles to use?

Stand-up paddles differ in price. The costly paddles are lighter and well designed for great performance and techniques.

For a beginner, do not spend a lot of time looking for the best paddles. In most cases, your package will come with a paddle for you. Thus you do not need to shop for one.
