Koh Samui is a heaven for tropical holiday lovers. Get your visa and ticket, pack your clothes, throw in your favorite books (only if you are a bibliophile), a couple of swimsuits, and your tech gadgets, and you are set for wonderful and amazing Koh Samui holidays. This is much easier said than done, but if this is your first time, chances are that things might go wrong. Well, worry not, as we are here to ensure that they don’t. In this Koh Samui holidays package, we will give you list of all the things you will require for a stress-free holiday. The reason we have compiled an elaborate list is that some of the things are quite costly in Koh Samui, especially the ones you buy from the local vendors. Plus, when they see that you are a tourist, the prices go up.
So, here is our list of the essential things you’ll need in Thailand, and particularly Koh Samui.
Sunglasses & Hat
The sun is quite powerful in tropical countries like Thailand, and we don’t want you to expose yourself to the harsh sun rays, especially if you are coming from a cold place like the UK or the US.
These two things will not only protect your eyes, head, and face but also add style to your attire during your trip.
Sunscreen & After Sun
You really need to amp up your protection against the sun during your time in Koh Samui. Many tourists just skip such things while packing and leave it to buy the first thing when they reach their destination. While this may work for a few, it does not work for the ones who are on a budget. Sunscreen and after-sun things are quite costly in Koh Samui. Plus, you will not find too much variety there. So, it is better to get the best one before leaving. Look for one that is specifically made for harsh sun rays. And if you are too conscious about your skin, you might consider giving your dermatologist a call.
Sunscreen will keep you safe from the sun, but when you are in and out, there are high chances that you might get a little sunburned. So don’t forget to keep a bottle of after-sun as well, as it may come in handy.
Bug Repellent
Bugs and mosquitoes are quite a common occurrence in Koh Samui. They will accompany you whenever you are in an open place, especially the beaches.
So keeping a bottle or two of your favorite bug spray is the right idea. In this way, you can effectively avoid mosquitoes and bugs, and in turn, those crazy rashes.
Shoes
If there is one thing that we can say about a Koh Samui trip with certainty, it is about walking. You will walk a lot, and that too on different types of terrain. So, keeping at least 2 to 3 types of shoes is essential.
For beaches, a pair of aqua socks is great, as they’ll keep your feet safe from small rocks or other such things. Flip-flops are also best for beach exploration, but the aqua socks are more comfortable. If you are up for a good hike, then running shoes with impressive grip are what you need. For formal gatherings, a pair of moccasins will do the trick.
However, while packing shoes, keep the allowed luggage weight in mind. We don’t want you to lose half of your stuff at the airport.
Clothes
Regardless of the time you go to Koh Samui, the weather is hot and humid. You may feel it is even more challenging if you are used to colder climates.
The dress code in Koh Samui is quite relaxed. Bikinis and shorts are not frowned upon at beaches or pools, but they are considered too friendly in public places. You might need a sarong or towel to cover up until you are back to your room. While you are roaming the streets or involved in other activities, a t-shirt with shorts or 3-quarters is fine. But if you are going to temples, you will be required to cover your shoulders and knees.
Jeans, jackets, or thick clothing are a no-go for Thailand. They aren’t breathable, and you will feel suffocated in them, so leave them at home. Cotton, linen, and other lightweight and breathable fabrics are your best friends for this trip. In the world of clothes, a raincoat deserves a special mention. Rains are quite unpredictable in the beautiful lands of Koh Samui. So, a raincoat is a must. Now you can buy it quite easily from the countless shops on the island, but the price will be much higher than you would pay at home.
First Aid Kit
Koh Samui is a land full of adventures, so chances are that you might get small bruises or injuries during your time there. Keeping a first aid kit with some bandaids and antiseptic creams is a must.
Plus, you will witness a sudden change in the type of food you consume. So, you may experience stomach problems in the beginning. Keep a few medicines for that as well.
Lastly, don’t forget painkillers. After you are back to your room from a day of adventure, your body will be hurting pretty badly, unless you are used to such high levels of daily grind. At this time, you will need a night of peaceful sleep and energy levels back to normal. A powerful painkiller can help you achieve this all right.
