Introduction

You may not think that table tennis pays very well, but the top players in the world can earn a pretty penny.

Table Tennis VS Tennis Earnings

Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng earned an impressive $100,000 for their success at Singapore’s inaugural Grand Smash tournament.

However, the duo was sorely out paid by tennis greats such as Roger Federer, who won over forty times that amount when securing victory in Wimbledon later that year with a whopping $2.9 million prize!

Liu Shiwen also experienced this earnings inequality during the 2019 World Cup, where she netted a comparatively meager sum of just sixty thousand dollars compared to her male counterpart Fan Zhendong’s winnings.

Thus, it is easy to see that even though table tennis champions do not take home as much money as other professional athletes, they still can earn a significant amount of prize money.

Many assume that most of a professional athlete’s earnings come from sponsorships, not prize money.

This may be true for some athletes in some sports, but we could not find any endorsements for any of the top table tennis players.

They may have personal sponsorships with companies that produce table tennis equipment or apparel, but we could not find any information.

Therefore, it seems safe to say that, for now, at least, top table tennis players earn most of their income from winning tournaments.

The Highest-Paid Leagues

Table tennis has become a high-stakes competition, with top players vying for glory and cash prizes in leagues spanning different continents.

From China’s Super League to Germany’s Bundesliga, right down to Japan’s league and Russia’s – the rewards on offer can be astronomical!

And if you’re one of the best European teams from each national league, there is even more money up for grabs through qualification into the prestigious Champions League.

As well as these top two leagues, the Japanese, French, Spanish, Korean, and Russian leagues also offer lucrative contracts for those at the peak of their game.

The best teams from each European country compete annually in the Champions League to determine who will be crowned king; this tournament offers desirable rewards that make it a sought-after title amongst all contenders!

Players in these leagues can earn between $10000 to $300000 per year.

The salary of the players varies a lot depending on several factors:

1. The level and ITTF ranking of the player.

2. How many matches did they win in a season.

3. The league they play in (Bundesliga vs. French League etc.)

Fan Zhendong is the top table tennis player and enjoys all the rewards of his success.

The Chinese native has won countless titles, earning him an estimated net worth of $5 million as he heads into 2022. Fan Zhendong is the 54th most popular TT player globally, with 19th place when it comes to popularity among players from China!

Nevertheless, Fan Zhendong is currently ranked world No. 1 for men’s singles by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).

Winning a men’s singles tournament earns his staggering prize money of $1,001,000. Likewise, by winning three tournaments in 2019, he has cashed several million dollars.

For instance, he won $100,000, as he ended his journey in the semi-final in the Sweden Open tournament when he defeated Portugal’s Marcos Freitas by 4-0 sets. In addition to this grand prize money, he receives several substantial endorsement deals from companies like Adidas and Nittaku.

Ma Long is another professional table tennis player from China with an estimated net worth of around $4 million. He is currently ranked 2nd in the world for men’s singles by ITTF.

Ma Long has won numerous tournaments throughout his career, including Olympic Games, World Championships, and World Cup, just to name a few.

He has also been sponsored by some of the biggest brands in sports, including Adidas and Butterfly Table Tennis Tables & Rackets manufacturer. All of these factors have contributed to his huge net worth.

Conclusion

Table tennis may not be as popular as some other sports, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t pay well.

The top players in the world can earn six-figure salaries just from prize money alone.

So if you’re good enough to be a top player, don’t worry about making a living—you’ll be just fine!

From this, we can deduce that if you want to make money from competitive table tennis, you need to be at your best and play in one of the major European leagues.

If you’re not content with just making enough to get by playing in minor competitions, aim high and take your game to China or Germany – that’s where the real money is!
