A thorough understanding of all topics in the syllabus is necessary for a good exam result. Studying well for class 12 chemistry exams can also help students prepare for competitive exams as a lot of the syllabus is similar for the subject.

Here are some tips that can help students achieve a perfect score in their class 12 Chemistry exams:

  • Be aware of the exam pattern
Since changes in the exam pattern are often made by CBSE, it is important to know the new pattern and practice questions based on it so that you are well prepared for the exam.

  • Cover the whole syllabus
The chapter-wise distribution of marks in Chemistry is in a way that most chapters have equal weightage. So it is advised that students cover the entire syllabus without discrimination towards any topic. Often questions are asked from the chapters that students neglected during their preparation, leading to loss of marks.

  • Prepare a timetable
This will help you spend an appropriate amount of time on each topic according to your requirements. If any chapters have higher weightage than others and are more important, you can adjust your schedule accordingly to put more time and practice into it. This will also help cover your syllabus in time for more revision and practice before the exam.

  • Focus on NCERT books
NCERT books have been the prescribed sources for all classes according to the CBSE curriculum. It is highly recommended to study all chapters in-depth from NCERT since the question papers are prepared solely on the basis of these books. Questions can be framed from anywhere in between chapters as well as taken directly from the end of chapters.

  • Do not forget the Exemplar
Often questions are taken directly from the exemplar as a surprise element for those who ignored the exemplar while preparing for their exam. Exemplar has exercises other than the ones in the main textbooks. These exercises and questions will make your preparation even stronger and provide better results.

  • Focus more on numericals, names of reactions, and products
Chemistry in class 12 involves a list of different numericals, reactions, and products that need to be practiced and memorized well. Better marks can be scored through more focus on practicing numericals in physical chemistry, short notes on name reactions and mechanisms in organic chemistry, and products of various reactions, properties, anomalous behaviors, etc. in inorganic chemistry.

  • Practice writing skills
Board exams are lengthy and require writing a lot of material to get full marks on any question. Practicing your writing skills will help you understand how to make your answer presentable and worth the marks. The following tips will help you write a well-presented and credible answer:
  • Writing values of parameters and equations at the beginning of a numerical-based answer in physical chemistry,
  • Names of products and reactants in organic chemistry,
  • Ample use of keywords in inorganic chemistry’s conceptual questions

  • Solve sample papers
Attempting sample papers and question papers from previous years will help you know the type and pattern of questions, how well you are prepared for them, and the topics that require more practice. Solve these papers while being in a proper exam setting, set the timer for 3 hours, and try to finish solving the question paper in this timing so you know if a change in your writing speed is required. Practice writing answers exactly the way you will in the exam.

  • Learn from mistakes and fix them

Students are advised to not ignore any mistakes that are made in the internal exams as well while solving sample papers. Focus on these mistakes and instead of stressing about losing marks, practice rectifying them. This will help you avoid making such errors in the final exam and save marks.

  • Acknowledge stress response
Often during the preparatory period, students experience stress due to the feeling of unpreparedness or constant errors while practicing. This can lead to an inability to concentrate on studies. Students need to acknowledge these feelings and talk about them with teachers, parents, or friends. This will help students calm down and be able to study better.

  • Learn to deal with panic
During exams, students are often faced with questions that may seem really difficult to answer and lead to panic. In such circumstances, instead of spending too much time on any such question, move on to the next questions in the paper. Come back to the unsolved questions at the end with a better state of mind.

Conclusion
These simple tips will help students score the maximum marks in their class 12 Chemistry exam. The key is to practice well enough to have a deep and thorough understanding of all concepts.

However, it is also important to keep a check on your mental and physical health. Take regular breaks to avoid exhaustion from consecutive and long hours of studying.
