How to take care of your vehicle properly: four top tips

Taking care of your vehicle is an incredibly important regular chore, and it can be a great way to help you maintain a more stress-free life. It means that you can stop things from going wrong with your vehicle which might simply be caused by neglect. This is clearly something that you will benefit from, rather than having a costly repair after an embarrassing breakdown in an inconvenient location or even driving a very dangerous car. Here are four top tips on how you can take care of your vehicle properly and avoid any risks.

#1 You are going to need to make sure you are taking care of your car keys

This is a massively overlooked part of owning a car. Always remember to have at least one set of spare car keys. This can be for numerous reasons, such as:

  • Theft or loss
  • In case one set breaks
  • Locking them in the car

Nothing is worse than having a broken car key without a spare, so you should make sure that you are investing in specialist services to make sure that you have a spare, and a reliable service to talk to if your key gets broken and damaged or you need it reprogrammed.

#2 Always remember to regularly maintain the essentials

This is an integral part of owning a car. You are going to need to make sure that:

  • All of your headlightsand brake lights are working
  • Your car’s fluid levels are suitable for regular function until at least the next check-up
  • Your tires are safe to drive on
  • that your brakes are working well and that there are no undesirable noises coming from the engine or steering

This is also a good opportunity to charge your car’s battery (a trickle charger is best for this).

#3 You need to make sure that your car is safe to drive for you

This means that you are making sure all headrests are the right height for you, making sure that all of the footwells are clear and nothing is knocking next to a space that could set off an airbag. You are also going to need to make sure that there is nothing that might impair your vision on your windscreen, such as a badly placed no hands phone holder.

#4 You are going to need to make sure that your car is clean

This isn’t just power washing the outside and vacuuming the inside. This can also be making sure that you are checking over your wheel arches and making sure that there isn’t anything lodged in them that might cause serious damage. It can also be making sure that your windows are clean so that you don’t have any obstructions or unnecessary blind spots when you are driving. You want to make sure that you are in a vehicle that looks good too, but that can be more of a welcome bonus than a necessity.
