Immensa – Growth in Additive Manufacturing

A leading 3D printer-driven additive manufacturing (AM) company throughout the Middle East and beyond, Immensa Technology Labs was established in 2016 by its Chief Executive Officer Fahmi Al Shawwa. Although it is a world leader in terms of on-site product/spare part fabrication and digital inventory management, the company has always been headquartered in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and continues to regard Saudi Arabia as its primary market.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represents the largest manufacturing base in the region, and the level of interest we have been receiving from Saudi-based companies confirms our belief that we need to continue supporting young Saudi engineers and investing more in developing the workforce for additive manufacturing and digital inventory solutions in the kingdom,” said Fahmi Al Shawwa. “We are extremely proud of the caliber of Saudi engineers, who have joined our team; we will be dedicating our resources to developing local talents and qualifying Saudi engineers in various aspects of industrial 3D printing and digital inventory services.”

Expansion of MaaS

While advancing the domestic 3D printer AM industry from its headquarters in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, Immensa has expanded beyond its national borders to establish satellite offices and multiple production facilities in the United Arab Emirates capital city of Dubai. The company’s current international network of offices also includes locations in Amman, Jordan; Kuwait City, Kuwait; and Houston, Texas.

Over the years, Immensa has emerged as a leader in leveraging machine learning, data digitization, and other advanced tech to provide highly effective and efficient manufacturing as a service (MaaS) to clients who want to print their own spare parts on-site. The company’s list of available MaaS technologies has expanded to include fused deposition modeling (FDM), selective laser sintering (SLS), stereolithography (SLA), direct metal laser sintering (DMLS), and wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM).

In terms of material, Immensa uses 3D printers to create solid parts and products out of plastic and metal. Its available plastics include Alumide, ABS, HT resin, Ultem, PVA, PETG, PA 11, PA 12, and PA 12GF. Its available metals include two types of Inconel alloy and two types of stainless steel as well as maraging steel, aluminum, titanium, copper, cobalt chromium, and super duplex alloys.

Highly adept at material qualification, Immensa’s team of AM experts can help clients determine the exact type of raw material required to meet their specific wants and needs. In fact, Immensa guides clients through all phases and aspects of the MaaS process including technology selection, simulation, parameter optimization, and post-processing.

In April of 2021, Immensa obtained the first licensure for additive manufacturing to be offered by the federal government of Saudi Arabia. This official credential gives the company further power to build its domestic infrastructure while simultaneously expanding internationally. Immensa recently acquired a 10,000-square-foot industrial AM facility in Dammam and an office in Riyadh. In coming months and years, it plans to build a network of 3D printing hubs across Saudi Arabia and strengthen its presence in both the Middle East and the United States.

In November of 2021, Immensa announced that it had successfully raised $7 million in a round of Series A funding that was structured by Gate Capital and led by Energy Capital Group, Al Turki Ventures, Shorooq Partners, Venture Souq, and Green Coast Investments among other investors. According to company officials, this new funding will allow Immensa to grow its capabilities in Saudi Arabia while using it “as a launchpad” to reach international markets. This places the company in a prime position to capitalize on a global AM market that is expected to grow from $15 billion in 2020 to $52 billion by 2026.
