It is not surprising that the commonly abused drugs are pain killers. When used in a higher dosage or more frequently than prescribed, this could lead to dependence. The dangerous thing about dependence on drugs is these drugs become a normal part of one’s system, and without it, it would lead to discomfort and agitation that will only go away if the drug is once again obtained and taken. People even resort to illegal means, even commit crimes for the sake of acquiring the drug.

Opioid dependence is a long-term disorder that affects a person physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, and economically. The mechanism of action of opiates is that they work in the nervous system primarily for pain relief and produces a feeling of pleasance. They are prescribed legally by medical practitioners to deal with severe pain. Heroin is an illegal kind of opioid subject to abuse. Other opioids like buprenorphine, methadone, and morphine are commonly prescribed for pain management.

The danger of being opioid-dependent is that taking and acquiring this drug becomes a top priority of the person instead of doing purposeful activities or the person’s routine activities. This impacts the person’s personal and professional connections destructively. When accustomed to the drug, the person’s brain would demand increased dosage to experience the same pleasure and good feeling produced by the drug. When a person decides to quit or misses a dose, the person is likely to experience psychological withdrawal symptoms, which are difficult and uncomfortable. Dependence may also increase the risk for a drug overdose, and when opioids are taken in high doses, it may pose health problems especially in the lungs, and eventually lead to death if no intervention is provided at once.

Fortunately, there is a drug that can counter opioid dependence and addiction. Suboxone is the drug of choice for reversing the effects of opioid dependence and helps in alleviating the extremely painful withdrawal symptoms. Suboxone is a combination of two drugs, buprenorphine, and naloxone. Though suboxone is proven to be effective, it must not be taken alone; instead, it must be paired with therapy and support from the patient’s significant others so that the person can achieve optimal health and social function. Patients must be monitored and kept under observation while taking the drug to avoid misuse and abuse. TheReCover explains the phases of treatment with suboxone and also other important details about the drug. TheReCover is the site to visit for persons who are already experiencing opioid dependence or who are concerned about persons who may already be dependent on opioid because it has a helpline with counselors on standby to answer any concerns or queries about opioid abuse, opioid dependence, treatment, and the Suboxone doctor online. Through this site, you may also find treatment centers that are nearby or accessible from your location.

There is hope for drug-dependent individuals as long as there are supportive healthcare providers and family members. An opioid-dependent individual cannot be rehabilitated on his own will since the drug has already affected his brain, hence, the active support of people around him while taking the drug is essential.
